Investing in the Next Generation

Scholarships.

The Bridge invests in the academic success and leadership potential of young men in our community. Each year, the chapter awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors who demonstrate academic merit, strong character, community engagement, and personal achievement.

Our scholarship program is made possible through the Kappa Foundation of Woodbridge, the 501(c)(3) philanthropic arm that funds the chapter’s charitable work.

The Awards

Three named scholarships.

Two memorial awards honor brothers whose lives exemplified the ideals of Kappa Alpha Psi. A third recognizes the children of the chapter’s active membership.

In Memoriam

Fredrick D. Essex Memorial Scholarship

$2,000 Disbursed over four years

Awarded annually to an African American male high school graduate who demonstrates service, leadership, and academic excellence. The Essex Scholarship honors the legacy of a brother whose name carries the standard.

In Memoriam

Benjamin Tyler Memorial Scholarship

$2,000 Disbursed over four years

Awarded annually alongside the Essex to an African American male high school graduate who exemplifies the same fraternal ideals. The Tyler Scholarship preserves the memory of a brother and the example he set.

For Member Families

McLeod Scholar Award

$100 Awarded annually

Open to all 2026 graduating seniors — high school or college — who are children of Woodbridge (VA) Alumni Chapter members in good financial standing. A recognition of the families behind the brotherhood.
